Buyer Beware: BlackListed Phones Image

One thing you want to watch out for if you’re going to try to buy a phone on say Kjiji or on Facebook Marketplace. Phones can be blacklisted now. Blacklisted, it can be a stolen phone, but more often what’s happened is that the person got the phone on a plan and then eventually didn’t pay the bill. Then the cell phone carrier, say Rogers will blacklist the phone. When a phone is blacklisted, it can only be used on Wi-Fi. It can’t be used with a SIM card anymore, regardless of carrier. And since most people when they buy a phone, they’re trying to use it as a phone not just on Wi-Fi. You got to be careful about this. So when you are looking to buy a phone, there are websites like this one that will allow you to check if the phone is blacklisted or not.
