How do I know that you will build a quality product?
Quality is shown in our longevity of being in the App building business for 13+ years. And keeping clients for the long-term. Many of our clients have done business with us 5 years or more because we deliver for them.
We have built over 300 applications spanning across: Financial, retail, transportation, education, healthcare, government, agriculture and more.
All our coding is done in-house with some of our staff being here from the beginning.
What does an app consist of?
In general terms there is a Frontend and Backend.
The Frontend is what you view on the screen, it’s the buttons, colors, and how it’s design to look and interact with the user. This is known also known as UX (user experience) & UI (user interface).
The backend is the is the server connection where the frontend communicates with all the data requests for the app usually in a database on the server. The backend is very common in building an app, BUT there are apps that do not need the backend to operate.
How much does an app typically cost?
Mobile applications are priced according to their complexity.
Currently there are two popular platforms that apps work on, Apple & Android. If the app needs to communicate and store information online, you would also need a backend component.
We can make a very simple app for well under $5k, however it would only be built with one platform and no server component.
Many Apps that include both platforms and a server could start at approx. $25K and up, depending on features.
Larger projects can begin in the $70k - $100k range and climb much higher.
The key is to build a “MVP” Minimum Viable Product which is the minimum amount of key features your first app should have.
How long would it take to build an app?
This depends on the complexity and features of the app.
Average size apps can take approximately 3 – 4 months. Small apps take 2 months or less, large apps can take over six months to build.
Lots depends on the workload of the team as they juggle multiple project at a time, as well as the platforms used, and the complexity of the backend.
Where do you build apps?
All apps our built in-house at our office, we have a very experienced team of programmers who handle all projects. We do not hire any outside contractors so we can better control the quality of the code.
What steps are involved in building an app?
Once you share your idea, we provide a detailed Proposal of what the project will cost.
Next Step: Design Phase where we have several meetings together (normally once a week) to design your app. You will be able to see what the app would look like with colour, buttons, etc. Every feature will be thought through with you to provide the look and feel that you want for your app before it’s built.
Next Step: Once you approve the design it moves over to the “Build Phase”. During this phase we build in sections or “Milestones”. At the end of each Milestone we present you with a partial build of the app which you can play with on your phone, the goal is for you to provide us with detailed feedback of any changes that are needed. As each Milestone is completed you would have a more completed build, until you have the final build.
Next Step, Finally the build is complete and when you approve the “Candidate Build” it is ready to launch to the App Store which we take care of the publishing.
I have a great app idea, but no financial support what options do I have?
First off, it would be beneficial to put your idea into a “Business Plan” which presents your idea in a structured manner showing a well thought process from a financial perspective.
There are many avenues from private investors, government grants, and organizations that specialize in helping Tech Startup ideas.
Once I get the app built what costs are ongoing?
If your App needs a Backend component, you will need to pay for hosting services which varies depending on usage. For many apps this is $1000 or less a year.
There is an option to pay for App Support after the app is built which covers you for any issues that arise or when Apple and Android push large operating system updates, which can affect the app and require an update to the app.
What is the payment process if I decide to go ahead with my app idea?
When you’re ready to sign and move ahead on the project we require 50% upfront of the project cost.
Second payment is halfway through the project requiring another 25% of the project
Final payment of 25% is required when the candidate build is approved, once payment is complete, we push your app to the store.
Do I own the app once it’s built?
Yes, however the actual coding is a little more complex.
We reuse our code from previous projects, because we have improved processes, built for better stability, and so on. Reusing code also reduces the cost of building the app which is passed onto the client.
IF the client wants to own the code, there will be an added charge to replace our proprietary code with generic coding.
